The world of school trips has changed a huge amount over the years. For the most part, this is great! Young people are getting out more, learning more and trying more! Here at Jurassic Watersports, our team have had the privilege to work along-side instructors who have been in the industry longer than some of us have been able to walk. We’ve heard their stories of how things use to be. Some of us were even lucky enough to have been on these kinds of trips as kids ourselves! We want to combine that ‘traditional’ way of doing things, with our experience of running a more current style school trips and residentials.

We are a modern company. We aren't big fans of words like ‘traditional’ or ‘retro’. But ‘old school’? That we can do! Infact, an Old school/New school mix is kind of what we do best! Our NEW ‘True Adventure Trips’ are exactly that! We have designed a simple and elegant program that maximises the leaning and growth opportunities of your young people, whilst minimising cost and logistical complications.

Our simplest form of trip is just two days out of school, but in those two days they will learn to read a map, use a compass, set up tents, cook for themselves on a camp stove, Climb on real rock, belay other Climbers, swim through caves, stay safe whilst having fun on our amazing coastlines and much more! All while experiencing some of our very best activities and making memories that will stay with them, long after their school life.

This is sounding good…tell me more?

An example programme could look like:

Day 1

Your group will arrive at the Studland chain ferry car park with all their bags. Their bags will go into a van for transport to the campsite, while they will split off into groups carrying a day bag of food and water for the day and waterproofs. They will then spend the day with a member of our team learning how to navigate, map read and other expedition skills. Which they will need to lean fast, as their destination is their campsite! By the end of the day they will arrive on their wild campsite, navigating independently. Once on site, they will work as a team to put their tents up and cook their dinner on camp stoves. (With a little help from their Instructors of course)

Day 2

They will start their day preparing their own camp breakfast and lunch for the day. They’ll pack up their tents and load all their bags into a van again for transport. They will then be issued with Coasteering & Climbing kit, before heading off along the coastal path, destined for Dancing Ledge. They will then spend the day Coasteering and Climbing on the ledge, before walking out to Spyway barn, where they will finish their adventure and await collection!

This sounds cool, but what makes this so special or different?

A very good question! Trips like these have disappeared over recent years. Residential trips now tend to be like a holiday for the young people, with smart accommodation, food on hand, and a structured program of Activities, just like lesson schedules at school. Don't get us wrong, we are by no means saying there is anything wrong with these kinds of trips! We love those trips and still run them ourselves! What we are saying is we think there is a different way of doing things that can lead to very different outcomes. We wanted to develop a programme that encourages young people to not just try new things, but learn new things! Young people these days struggle to find opportunities to experience independence and really do things for themselves. On these new trips, they are dropped in the deep end! They will be pushed and encouraged into taking responsibility for themselves. It's their trip, our staff are just on hand to help them along the way! It's also important to note that this programme was developed alongside some of our clients who wanted a more affordable option that their students could all have the opportunity to benefit from. The majority of these trips can be run at less than £200 per student.

What kind of benefits will I and my young people see?

The list of benefits are countless! But the key ones include:

- Learning new skills

- Developing independence

- Experiencing resilience

- Becoming self sufficient

- Trying something different

- More affordable

- These trips are also an amazing tool for groups who are going to be going on to do programmes such as the DofE Award.

From a school point of view as well, these trips minimise the need for minibus and school transport. The only transport you need is too and from the trip! For local Schools, you could even arrange for parents to drop off and collect themselves!

FAQ's

What's the paperwork situation like?

Not to bad! We will provide you with a link to a folder on our cloud drive so that you can access any documents we share with you. There are only really three things we need from you:

- Provider Agreement

- Group Consent Form

- Medical Information

But we will be on hand to walk you through it all!

How can we contact you?

If you have any other questions please email Info@jurassicwatersports.co.ukor use the form on the bottom of this page, or on the 'Contact Us' page. Our Team will get back to you ASAP!

What if we need to Cancel?

This doesn't happen often! (Until the last couple of years of course!) Our Team will discuss with you exact refund dates and deposits for your booking.

If the booking is unable to go ahead due to Government/Legal restrictions, we will discuss with you options for transferring the booking. If this is not possible, we will refund as much as possible, however on occasion we will need to keep small amounts of funds to cover unavoidable costs.

Is there a minimum group size?

Not really! Just remember small groups can become more expensive! Due to staffing ratios, keeping groups close to multiples of 10 will usually be more cost effective!

Do you provide a kit list?

Of course! We will provide you with a full kit list for you to pass onto your students.

Is there a minimum age?

We generally suggest 12-13+. Obviously we will adapt programmes to best suit the age of the group, for longer residential programmes, the older your students are, the more they will get out of the experience. For our new ‘True Adventure Trips’, we would suggest groups are aged 14+ (or Year 9+).

Where do you operate?

Depending on the Activities, we can be flexible. However we generally work around the Swanage/Purbeck area.

Whats the maximum you can take?

We can take groups as big as you’ve got. That being said, we find smaller groups have a better time! Groups of up to 30 can be accommodated without issue and groups of up to 60 can be accommodated with relative ease.
