Your Silver Duke Of Edinburgh Expedition marks an important mile stone in your journey on the award scheme. For many, the completion of your qualifying Expedition marks the completion of your Silver Award, making you well away on your journey to Gold!
At Jurassic Watersports we recognise the fact that for many young people, their Silver Expedition will be the last chance them to refine their skills before embarking on their Gold Expeditions. Because of this, we do everything we can to focus their Silver Expeditions as preparation for a Gold Expedition in Wild Country.

Day 1 is a training day. This training day prepares you to carry out the rest of your Expedition, independent and self-sufficient. This training is focused on practical navigation training, as well as assessing the participants route planning, cooking and stove safety, basic first aid and camp craft. Every aspect of your Expedition is covered so that you are completely confident in your ability to pass your Expeditions. Day 2 and 3 is your official Practice Expedition. We kick things off with a kit check, to ensure you are equipped with all necessary equipment, we will then set you off on one of our tried and tested routes. Our practice routes have all be specifically chosen to be challenging enough to help develop the skills learnt on your practice day, without being overwhelming. We will ensure you are safe and happy throughout the day with multiple checkpoints where we will deliver any additional training that’s required. On completion of the practice Expedition, your Instructor Team will give you and your team a full debrief, ensuring any questions or worries are sorted and you are fully prepared to take on the challenge of your Qualifying Expedition. |

The qualifying Expedition is a fully self-sufficient, 3 day and 2 night Expedition. We will follow a similar routine to your practice Expedition. You will meet your Instructor Team and Expedition Group, your Instructor Team will carry out a full kit check and set off on your route. Supervision during the qualifying expedition is conducted with a more remote approach, letting you and your group figure it out together, with our Team only stepping in when needed. However, our Team we still carry out multiple check points and may even walk into see you at various point along your route. On completion of the qualifying Expedition, you and your team will deliver your Expedition Aim Presentation to your Assessor who will then sit down with you and your team and run through a full debrief, where they will also discuss your next steps and begin to set you off on your route to Gold. After your Expedition, your Assessor will send each member of the group a completed copy of the Jurassic Watersports Assessors report, as well as uploading a copy direct to your EDofE account. |

Book both your Practice and Qualifying Expeditions at the same time, for selected dates and receive a special discounted package price! By booking package dates, we can usually ensure that you complete both your qualifying and practice Expeditions with the same group members, which is far from guaranteed with most open Expeditions. A huge problem with the DofE Award is the drop out rate, the number of participants that fail to complete an award level. One of the biggest contributing factors to student drop out is the loss of motivation between the two Expeditions. By booking the two together you give yourself a target to aim for, making sure you go through with the award. We also try to book package dates so that the two Expeditions are as close together as possible, also ensuring minimal skill drop between expeds! |

We try our best not to cancel any sessions but sometimes the grate British weather has other ideas! If we are forced to cancel due to unsafe conditions, we will contact you as soon as possible by phone, as well as a confirmation email, to let you know the session is not going ahead. We will try and rebook you in as soon as is convenient for you.
