Recognised NCC Coasteering Guide Award Training & Assessment – Based in Dorset, delivered nationally
Operating from our home on the Dorset coast, with arguably some of the best coasteering venues in the UK, Jurassic Watersports provides official National Coasteering Charter (NCC) Guide Award training and assessments for individuals, outdoor centers and freelance guides.
The NCC’s core goal is to "Promote Safe Coasteering”. Which is exactly what we aim to do, with every training course or assessment we deliver!
When you train with us, you’re learning directly from an active and experienced Coasteering Guide, who is involved in the development of coasteering standards across the country. Our head trainer is a current NCC Regional Representative and a voting member of the NCC National Committee, helping shape national safety frameworks and best practices.
Our Trainer combines this active involvement with the NCC, with years of experience as a working Coasteering Guide and Outdoor Instructor, to deliver every aspect of training with a grounded, human approach, centred in the realities of working as an active Coasteering Leader.

Completing your NCC Guide Award is a step towards becoming a professional Coasteering Guide!
The National Coasteering Charter (NCC) Guide Award is the only nationally recognised Coasteering Leader qualification in the UK. Established by the NCC and experienced industry experts to raise safety standards across the country, the award framework provides a structured pathway to train, assess, and qualify coasteering leaders in the core skills being a Guide requires. The award has also become the benchmark safety and leadership standard for commercial coasteering guides nationally.
Your Pathway to Becoming a Qualified Guide
For most candidates, the pathway looks something like:
Step 1 – Start Coasteering! You need to have experience and you need to know you enjoy it!
Step 2 – Attend a Training Course. Ran by an approved NCC Guide Award Provider, designed to teach you all the core skills you need to become a Coasteering Leader.
Step 3 – Consolidate. Following your training, you will be given an action plan to help guide you from where you are, to where you need to be. This is also the time for you to build experience and develop your skills, ready for an assessment.
Step 4 – Assessment. Once you have all your experience and requirements in place, you’ll arrange your Assessment. This is simply you running a session with an NCC Guide Award Provider watching you work. They will assess how you deliver, put you through your paces on certain skills and all being well - give you that certificate you’ve worked so hard for!
And that's you, a Qualified NCC Coasteering Guide!

The NWSMP Water Safety Awareness Course is built for those working near water as part of a structured activity. However, this course also works brilliantly as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for anyone working in an aquatic environment or generally as part of a water safety training programme.
This course covers:
- Generic Open Water Hazards
- Risk Management
- Land-based Rescue Techniques
- PPE & Aquatic Clothing
- Basic Life Support Awareness
Want to step it up?
Although this award is focused on land-based rescues, we can offer to bolt on a more active, in-water rescue session. This builds on the skills of the awareness course without requiring you to complete a full Module 2 course.
£200.00pp (incl VAT @ 20%)

For all Regulated RLSS First Aid and Water Safety qualifications, they have a minimum age of 16. However, if you have a group of young people you'd like to get involved, we can arrange this for you!

There is no prior experience required to take part in any of our courses. With exception to a First Aid At Work Requalification.
